Ahhhh! Glorious Summer time! (or as we say here in Maine..A wicked nice Summah!)


          Good Afternoon from Beautiful Bridgton, Maine! After a terrible, wet and cold and LONG Spring, we are finally enjoying a warm, sunny stretch of summer weather. The flowers are blossoming, butterflies are flitting about and the garden is in. Time to get out and enjoy the season, although we have plenty to do here at Homeland Farm.
           Today, I am doing a blog post called A DAY IN THE LIFE AT HOMELAND FARM.
It could easily be called "A day in the life of Carmie and Cliffy," or "Watch Carmie and Cliffy work", but I will go with my original title.
          Anddddd Here we GO!
PS..Doing this in two parts since my computer is being a pain!
                 

       A DAY IN THE LIFE AT HOMELAND FARM

     6AM...wake up to the Peke snoring on my head.

     7AM... Coffee and we make plans for the day. The dogs are clearly awaiting instructions.
   
 
  9 AM....It is time to start making strawberry jam. Three batches later, we were done!

Under the careful eye of three ladies that were once captured on film, right at this sink. Aunt Esther, Aunt Fern and Nanny.

Three Batches later and we have 15 pints! Will be very tasty in January!



Noon time! Quick lobster roll break...Yum!


Onions and radishes
1230 PM...A Hoe-ing we will go! The raised beds are looking great and the other garden is till wet, but coming along slowly. The heat has been helpful with all the plants. I think it will work out!

200 PM...TIME TO GET MOWING!


3PM...LOTS AND LOTS of apples on our trees this year. We are going to get a good crop this year, if the varmints behave.
 We have several different varieties of apples, from Macintosh to Granny Smiths. I can't wait...I need to make applesauce!

A REAL HOUSE WIFE OF BRIDGTON MAINE     I don't usually watch much television, but lately have found myself flipping through the channels for a couple hours before bed. Granny Nightgowns..NOT just for sleeping.

Baking (and sampling) can also be done in a granny..      I love my granny nightgowns. I am sure there are lots of people that do. Mine are a lot more then nightwear however. They serve several purposes for me. They are casual wear, lounge wear, even business wear. They are mostly plaid, and when they are all clean and stacked up on my shelf where I keep them, they look like a "Gathering of the Clans" in Scotland. I do have a few flowered models, as well . I also have a wide variety to choose from. I have some that are floor length, mid calf, and some knee length. All, very sexy.       I can usually be found in a granny nightie from 7pm until 10-11 am, and perhaps on a Sunday, all day. I think I inherited my love of flannel from my Aunt Dorothea. She could often be found running the vacuum around in the afternoon, still granny clad. BEAR! (or, maybe not..)

    Owning a farm with a variety of animals made it hard for our family to get away for a vacation, or even an overnight camping trip for that matter. So, my siblings and I would pitch our old canvas tent at home, and pretend we were out deep in the wilderness, surrounded by wild creatures. We had a lot of fun in that old tent, but one memory sticks out in my mind the most     My sister and I decided one steamy summer night that we wanted to "camp out." While my mother packed our snacks, Kim and I lugged our pillows and sleeping bags over to the tent that my father had set up earlier that day. Now for some unknown reason, we always pitched the tent in the horse pasture, underneath one of the apple trees. Every year after we set it up, the horses and steers would check it out carefully, then pretty much ignore it the rest of the summer.       Kim and I made several trips across the pasture hauling our "supplies" for the night.
